Three years ago, my optimism, stupid choices, and a couple of failed businesses got my family into a ton of debt. The stress it put on my marriage was crazy. The stress it put on the family was tremendous. And I didn’t know how to turn that ship around. I was in trouble.
A friend of mind told me about Dave Ramsey and his Financial Peace University. In 2006, I took my Christmas money and bought the Financial Peace University Kit. When we got it, Christi and I started listening to the CDs and took steps to take us from a debt system to a cash-only system. Things began to get better.
Dave Ramsey’s program isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme. You aren’t trying to convince your friends to sign up for this or that. Instead, Dave helps you understand what it takes to live on a cash-only budget, cut up the credit cards, and never add another penny to your debt. Dave teaches you how to follow one piece of advice, “Act Your Wage.”
I am proud to say that I haven’t put a penny on personal credit cards for two years. We’re still paying down debt, but I get the satisfaction of seeing the amount we owe decrease. I don’t dread the credit card bills, because I open them and see the progress we’ve made.
It hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth it.
If you are like me and have made some pretty stupid decisions with money, take the time to check Dave Ramsey out. Christi and I highly recommend his program. It probably saved our marriage.
By the way, I don’t get any money from Dave Ramsey for promoting his product. He doesn’t even know who I am. I just believe it what it can do for you and your family so much that I wanted to take the time to talk about it here.
